The City of Loup City is governed by a Mayor and four City Council members. The term of office of the Mayor and the City Council is four years. Two Council members’ terms expire every two years. The election of the Council members is held on the date of the statewide general election.

The Governing Body meets for regular meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. If the first Tuesday of the month falls on the first day of the month or a holiday, then the regular City Council meeting shall be held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.

City Hall is located at 134 S 8th Street and is open to the Public Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. The Council Chambers is located at 133 S 8th Street in the same building as City Hall. City Council meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month, unless the first Tuesday falls on the first of the month, then the meeting will be held on the second Tuesday.

Public Works Office & City Yards
The Public Works Office/City Yard is located at 1030 N Street and is open Monday-Friday 7:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The Public Works Department is on-call for emergency situations.

At the organizational meeting of the City Council, the Mayor shall appoint members of such standing committees as the City Council may by ordinance or resolution create. The membership of such standing committees may be changed at any time by the Mayor. The Mayor shall be a member ex officio of each standing committee. The members of the standing committees shall serve a term of office of one year, unless reappointed.

The following standing committees shall be appointed or reappointed each year until changed by the Governing Body:

(1) Claims
(2) Licenses
(3) Ordinances
(4) Sanitation/Water
(5) Lottery
(6) Pool and Park
(7) Finance, Ways of Means
(8) Streets
(9) Ambulance
(10) Streets

Each standing committee shall meet at least annually to organize for the year and at additional times throughout the year as necessary. Meeting of the committees shall be called by the Chair of each committee. The Chair shall be determined at the annual meeting of the committee and shall serve until the new Chair is appointed. The Mayor shall contact the committee Chair to notify them of any municipal business related to the committee.
